Epoxy putty has a thick consistency and consists of a resin and a hardener. Kneading the two parts together activates a chemical reaction that starts the curing phase. After the putty is applied, it hardens into a strong, long-lasting bond. It does an excellent job of filling nail, screw and knot holes as well as repairing damaged areas such as scratches, gouges or dry rot. Multi-purpose epoxy putties are available that will bond to a wide range of materials including wood, metal, concrete and most plastics, and can be used indoors or outdoors. Cure times for epoxy putty are usually between 45 and 60 minutes but can vary based on factors such as temperature and humidity. A major benefit of epoxy putty is that it can be carved, sanded, drilled, tapped and finished as desired, providing a wide range of uses. For repairing rotten or punky wood, a two-part wood restoration kit that includes both a liquid epoxy to consolidate a repair area and putty epoxy to fill voids and replace missing sections is the best option.
