Simple Japanese Furniture

Quantité :

Offert en anglais seulement

Compiled by Group monomono, a Tokyo-based team of woodcraft experts, this book presents 24 projects to build simple, practical wooden furniture for the home, based on designs originally published in 1953 by the industrial design group KAK.

The book begins with a profile of KAK and its influence in industrial design and other fields, including woodworking. The authors cover the topics of tools and basic tool techniques, and explain structural concepts such as how bracing works to prevent deforming and how cutting a notch in one component and then fixing the members together can add strength to a structure.

Projects to build chairs, tables and storage units range in skill level from beginner to advanced. Each project includes an indicator of complexity, tools and materials lists, scale drawings, step-by-step instructions supplemented with color photos, and an image of the project as it appeared in the original publication.

An excellent selection of projects for DIYers and woodworkers of all skill levels, and an informative read for anyone interested in historical aspects of Japanese design.

Softcover, 8" × 10", 182 pages, 2022.
