Description

In American Peasant, author Christopher Shwartz explores a unique style of “peasant” furniture built primarily with tongue, groove and peg joinery, and featuring engraved symbols and ornate designs that are rarely seen in North America.

The book provides an overview of the history and the language behind these symbols (commonly found in Scandinavia and Eastern and Central Europe) and teaches you how to build and engrave 10 simple furniture pieces following this style using commonly available tools and materials.

In addition to furniture making and engraving, the book shows skills such as making your own commercial-grade glue and wood finish, helping you become a more independent and resourceful woodworker.

Hardcover, 6" × 9", 312 pages, 2024.
