Accessibility Statement

Taking its name from the mortise and tenon joint it was designed to create, a tenon saw is a backsaw used for making deep, accurate cuts in furniture joinery and cutting the cheeks of tenons. Though longer and able to make deeper cuts than dovetail and carcass saws, tenon saws generally have a lower tooth count than either. Western-style tenon saws usually have a closed ergonomic pistol-grip handle that is configured for exceptional control of saws this size. Tenon saws are available with a crosscut, rip or hybrid tooth pattern. Though Western tenon saws cut on the push stroke, Japanese dozuki saws cut on the pull. The Japanese word dozuki loosely translates to “attached back” in reference to the saw spine. Like their Western counterparts, dozuki saws have a thin blade with a reinforced spine; however, they have finer teeth with a higher tooth per inch count. Our assortment includes quality selections from Veritas, Bad Axe and Pax, as well as Japanese saws and starter sets.
