Rasps
Featuring larger, coarser teeth than files, rasps are primarily used for initial rough shaping of wood before finishing with a file and are used to chamfer corners or remove sharp points. Rasps are more aggressive than files, removing wood quickly.
We offer rasps in three shapes: flat, half-round and round. Flat rasps are best used on flat surfaces, whereas round rasps work best with round or irregular shapes. Half-round rasps are the most versatile and can be used on a variety of shapes and surfaces. Rasps can be hand stitched or machine stitched. The teeth on machine-stitched rasps are uniform and run the risk of creating and following furrows in the surface. Hand-stitched rasps, however, have random tooth patterns in both depth and placement, resulting in a more uniform finish. Round rasps are for working tight inside curves and are especially useful for carvings or turned spirals.
