Relief carving is an ancient form of carving where a design is carved into a flat piece of wood. Sections of the background are carved away, revealing a pattern in the parts that remain untouched. It’s almost like drawing in reverse.

With this kit, you will practice the art of relief carving on rubber and linoleum blocks, a technique known as linocut. Since linoleum and rubber have no grain, the base skills will be easier to learn than if you use wood. You will learn to use negative and positive space to create a one-of-a-kind design on a linoleum block that will become a stamp, which will then be used to print by hand onto greeting cards using water-soluble ink, adding another artistic element to the project.

The kit contains everything you need to make the stamp and print on the cards yourself, including over $112 of reusable tools and supplies. A step-by-step video and a downloadable copy of the written instructions are also included. Components of the kit are listed under the Specifications tab.
