Crucible Center SquaresMade in U.S.A.

Quantity:

Simple and elegant in design, these well-made squares quickly locate center on square, round or octagonal stock. Each has a 90° notch that registers against the side or corner of the workpiece, with a tapered tail that extends from the corner, bisecting the stock through dead center.

The smaller model is a good size for chairmaking. Machined from solid steel, it has a 1 5/8" diameter base and measures 3 1/4" across the center line – long enough to mark across the full width of spindles or sticks up to 2" in diameter or 1 5/8" square stock.

For chair work as well as more sizable turnings, the larger version is machined from solid brass, with an intricate machine-engraved acanthus design down the length of the tail. It has a 2 3/8" diameter base and measures 5 7/16" across the center line to fully span round stock up to 3 5/8" in diameter or 3" square stock.

Weighing 2.4 oz and 5.8 oz respectively, they feel substantial in the hand yet slip unobtrusively into an apron pocket. On each, the corner of the registration notch is relieved, so it seats well over saw whiskers, and a hang hole lets you keep it within easy reach of your workbench.
