Odie’s wood butters contain a higher proportion of wax than the oils, so they have a thick, paste-like consistency and buff to a higher degree of polish, yielding a satin sheen. Like the oils, they produce an attractive, durable, non-toxic finish and are suitable for any wood species, though they work particularly well on dense, oily exotics. Available in two formulations, a regular and a dark version, they enhance the figure and deepen the color of the wood, and, though a low-build finish, they have high resistance to liquids, sunlight and abrasion. The dark formulation contains oils that oxidize more readily to darken the wood, producing a deep, rich patina over time. Application is straightforward – simply work it into the surface using an extra-fine abrasive pad or cloth, and leave it to soak in for 1 to 2 hours before buffing. Only a single coat is required; for greater protection, additional coats may be applied. No sanding is needed between coats, making the finish easy to renew or repair. Both formulations can be used to top-coat Odie’s oils to increase sheen and durability, or to rejuvenate other oil finishes.
