Having recently emigrated from England to Canada, furnituremaker Ken Grisley wanted to simplify the time-consuming process of cutting dovetails by hand, which led him to develop a jig for cutting through-dovetails on a router – the first of its kind that allowed the user to adjust the dovetail spacing. Operating out of a small garage workshop, Ken and his wife Joan founded Leigh Industries in 1981 to manufacture and market the new jig, which quickly gained popularity among woodworkers.
