Each of these kits includes two precision-machined Benchcrafted vise mechanisms, as well as plans and instructions to build a versatile adaptation of a traditional European workbench.
Based on a design from André Roubo’s classic 18th century cabinetmaking text, L'Art du Menuisier, this split-top version offers excellent workholding capabilities. These glide leg vise kits are available with your choice of two styles of matching cast-iron handwheels. The cast wheels have a textured surface; machined wheels are ground and polished to a smooth finish. Knobs are black aluminum.
Each kit also includes four pages of 20" × 30" dimensioned drawings, a 28-page booklet of instructions, and all fasteners needed to build the bench and mount the vises. The 87" long, 24" wide and 35" high bench can be made entirely from nominal 8/4 lumber (you supply) and weighs over 300 lb if made from hard maple or ash.
