Description
Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) – Also known as palmyra palm, it belongs to the grasses and bamboos family, so it is classified as neither a hardwood nor a softwood. Featuring distinct interlaced patterns of dark and light brown wood, it is very straight grained with no rings or knots, but its dense, fibrous structure makes it difficult to work and highly prone to tear-out, so it demands very sharp tools.
Nominal measurements are 3/4" square by 6" long.
