If you’ve always wanted to try casting epoxy, this is an excellent way to learn. Making coasters is also a great way to engage kids with a simple craft while creating personalized gifts; the kids select and arrange objects to embed in the epoxy, and the adult does the mixing and pouring.
The kit includes two 50ml flexible silicone coaster molds and enough epoxy to cast at least 10 coasters – 500ml total of resin and hardener (mixed in a 1:1 ratio). It cures crystal clear, with UV inhibitors to help prevent yellowing over time.
Once mixed, the epoxy has a 10 to 15 minute working time and a 3 to 4 hour set time. It fully cures in 5 to 7 days at 18° to 25°C (65° to 77°F) with humidity below 70%. It has a 1 year shelf life when stored in a sealed container. Additional epoxy in 500ml (17 fl oz) and 2 litre (67 fl oz) sizes are available separately should 10 coasters not be enough.
Best of all, kid-made coasters make perfect gifts for grandparents, who are always trying to protect their furniture from the kids anyway.
