Description
Designed as a supplement to The Stick Chair Book (2021) by Lost Art Press co-founder Christopher Schwarz, The Stick Chair Journal highlights chairmaking designs, techniques and tools as well as the cultural history of stick chairs. Each issue also features an entire chair plan.
Following Volume 1 (2022), Volume 2 has several articles covering various aspects of stick chairs, including how to solve two common chairmaker’s dilemmas: preventing cracked arms, and finding the right height to accommodate short sitters and tall tables.
Also included is an article on a British- and Germanic-inspired chair based on a prop from the film the Fellowship of the Ring, and a review of the Cardigan chair, the first chair that Welsh chairmaker John Brown built in the U.S. Welsh chairmaker Gareth Irwin and antique dealers Tim and Betsan Bowen are profiled as well.
