Paring Chisels
Used for making light, carefully controlled cuts when shaping or fitting joinery, paring chisels have a long blade that guides the cutting edge much like the sole of a plane. Pushed rather than struck, they allow you to make accurate cuts at a distance from an edge and are especially useful for cleaning into stopped recesses on wide stock where you can’t come in from both sides. Paring chisels are usually used two-handed with one hand gripping the handle and pushing the chisel forward, while the other hand is on the blade to guide the cutting action.
