If you’re the sort of person who only ever uses a tape measure indoors in a clean, dry, dustless work area, these tape measures are not for you. For the rest of us, they solve a familiar problem – they combine all-stainless-steel inner parts and a sturdy plastic housing with a pattern of openings, so you can simply rinse or vacuum out any grit and debris that gets inside. This means you can use them outdoors, around sawdust, or in other less-than-ideal conditions without worrying about jamming the smooth action of the auto-retract mechanism. Even sand, which is notorious for wreaking havoc on moving parts, is easy to remove without harm.
Clearly marked in 1/8" increments to 16'5" on the top face, with millimetres and centimetres to 500cm on the back, the 1" wide tape can extend over 7' before buckling. On the Imperial side, the fractions are individually labelled so they’re easy to read, and red markings at 16" intervals simplify marking out stud locations. Each tape has a sturdy belt clip as well as a carabiner lanyard.
Nobody intends to leave a tape measure out in the rain – but if it happens with these, there’s no need to kick yourself.
