Quantity:

In generations past, templates similar to these were used to teach apprentice woodworkers the fundamentals of joinery. For novices and experts alike, a well-made dovetail template serves as a quick, reliable guide for laying out the straight and angled cuts for both the tails and the pins. We offer two versions, one for marking out 1:4 slopes and one for marking out both 1:6 and 1:8 slopes.

Made by Crucible Tools, each is milled from one piece of solid steel, ensuring accurate 90° corners so it seats flush.

The 1:4 version is 15/16" wide by 3" across the back, and the dual-slope version measures 1 11/16" × 3". The angled sections are long enough to mark out dovetails for most casework, and the straight section can span the edge of most standard lumber, permitting use as a saddle square. Each slips easily into an apron pocket and has a hang hole for storage.

Helping avoid errors and speeding up the layout process so you can get on with the important business of making sawdust, they are worthy additions to any joiner's tool kit.
