This tool seals the cut edges of vegetable-tanned leather, helping to protect against wear and moisture while giving a finished appearance.

Rubbing it briskly along an edge (with a medium such as water, beeswax or gum tragacanth) generates friction and compresses the fibers of the leather.

The slicker has concave grooves in widths of 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 10mm to match a range of leather thicknesses. Turned from beech, it is 6" long with a major diameter of just under 1".
