Testing embedded elements

Named after Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, these are widely considered the best mixing bowls available, appreciated by professional chefs and family cooks since the 1950s.

Made of extremely tough, food-safe melamine, they are highly resistant to breakage, discoloration, cracks and scratches, so the walls remain smooth and easy to clean.

They have a broad, stable shape and high sides to help prevent spills when mixing, with a well-formed spout on one side and pronounced lip on the other that serves as a handle. We particularly like the nonskid rubberized ring in the base that resists sliding on a countertop.

Dishwasher safe, the bowls can withstand 180°C/375°F temperatures (not microwavable). Sold as a set of three nesting bowls in 1.5 litre, 2 litre and 3 litre sizes (6.3, 8.5, and 12.7 cups).

The translucent white lids (one for each size bowl) perform much better than any improvised covers. The lids are fitted perfectly to snap on and create a tight all-round seal, and are sturdy enough that you can stack items on top of them. Sold separately or in a set with the bowls.

These outstanding mixing bowls and lids are examples of those rare products that prove their worth every time you use them.
