It lets you adjust the magnification in a range from 7X to 21X, giving the 20mm coated lens a 120' to 252' field of view at 1000 yards. This means that whether the subject you are viewing is near or far, you can quickly zoom in or out to fit it within the field of view before focusing the image with a second dial. You can also adjust the position of the eyepiece to accommodate a pair of glasses.
